A Little Bit of Growing Up

Charli went to her first wedding as a guest (and sat through the whole event) last night. We were making babysitting arrangements and she was listening and yelled out, "I want to go to the wedding too!" Why didn't I think of that? I knew instantly she would love it, so we made a night of it. We all got dressed up, went to one of her favorite restaurants (P.F. Changs because she likes egg rolls and to eat with chop sticks...she can really do it and tries to teach me everytime), and promised her to get to see a beautiful bride and eat cake. What more could a girly girl, four-year-old want?

The only problem with all the build up was that I had to field these questions all day:

Why do people get married?
Are you and dadddy married?
Why do people have babies?
Can you have babies before you get married?
Why do you wait til after your married to have babies?
Can I have babies and not get married? (UH, a BIG NO TO THAT)
Can you have more babies mom?
How does God put the babies in your belly?
After my explanation (for the 100th time).....she asks, "BUT HOWWWWW does the baby get in your belly?

Whew.....those are lots of questions. She seemed unhappy with most of my responses too. I can tell she wants more detail. Ohhhhh, that day will come.

So we went to the wedding. It was so fun watching it through her eyes. She got to set right next to the center aisle to see the bride come in close up. She was mesmerized. I loved that she listened to the pastor speak about God putting the couple together and she watched us all pray for them several times through out the ceremony. It was fun explaining what bridemaids are, why you get rings, why you pray, why the bride was crying....all new to her. Then she got bored and kept asking for the cake. Then at the end she curled up next to Justin's side.......oooooh. That was very sweet and poignant because he was already having those feelings of angst about the "one day" when he will have to go through this with her.

So we waited quite awhile for the cake (it was killing her). When they cut the cake, we were first in line because that little girl had been waiting for cake for hours. We even beat the wedding party to the cake! Ha! And she got her picture with the bride.

Sara you were beautiful! What a great wedding!

She ate two or three bites of cake (almost 2 hours after her bedtime) and crashed. So sweet.
